3 years ago, my son Tucker and I cycled around Argentina, a fundraiser for Amnesty International. I found myself in an unenviable position, one that I never want to be in. I’ll give you the scribblings from my journal at the time… “One of our dorm mates was Genaro Beroiza, an indigenous from Neuquen province. He was on a mission traveling around Argentina explaining the dilemma and injustice being done to his people by a Canadian mining company. They were extracting near his village with no regard for their drinking water or lifestyle. I was put in an unenviable position of apologizing for my government, but assured him most Canadians would sympathize with their situation, and were aware of the appalling track record of Canadian mining companies. I helped him in a small way, supplying him with names of politicians responsible for these bad decisions, for petition purposes.”
