~Please distribute widely. Many of you know Angelica and she and others need your support now! Individual and organizational sign-ons needed!
We’re looking for individual and organizational sign-ons to the attached solidarity statement that was put together following multiple attacks this past weekend against Angélica Choc in Guatemala and Máxima Acuña in Peru, as well as recent violence and repression against women and all who are fighting for land, water and life in the face of large-scale mining and hydroelectric projects in different parts of Latin America.
This statement will be presented to Guatemalan Indigenous Q’eqchi’ activist Angélica Choc on Thursday September 29th, when the murder of her husband Adolfo Ich Chaman will be commemorated. It will also be published and distributed online in three languages. Finally, it will also form the basis for an appeal to Canadian authorities demanding respect for Indigenous rights, safety for those who are fighting mega-projects in defence of land, water and life, as well as an end to impunity for Canadian corporations implicated in abuses abroad. It will also specifically recall the demands that are laid out in the following e-petition to the Canadian in the wake of the murder of Berta Cáceres almost seven months ago that will remain open until October 12th: https://petitions.parl.gc.ca/en/Petition/Details?Petition=e-412
Please send your sign-ons to jen(at)miningwatch.ca by or before midnight on Tuesday September 27th.
